How to win at Tap Defense for iPhone

Update Dec/08: This strategy is even easier now that you can upgrade your arrow towers to level 4.

Tap Defense is a tricky game at first, but once you understand a few things – it’s actually very easy. The game is most difficult in the first 20-30 levels when you don’t have much gold and are limited in terms of what you can build. Because of this it is really important that you limit your spending as much as possible. I have used these pointers on easy/medium & hard and can beat the game on any difficulty now:

1. In the beginning, build only arrow towers
2. Never build so much in one level that you run out of gold
3. With each new level, you should actually have more gold than you did the previous level. If you don’t, you are spending too much
4. Don’t upgrade arrow towers until you have most of the map covered
5. Use your first 4 halos on interest upgrades
6. After you get the 2nd interest upgrade, focus on upgrading arrow towers until you can get a halo to research the ice tower
7. Build at least 4 ice towers near the beginning of the road, staggered 1 or 2 spots (don’t put them all beside each other)
8. Upgrade ice towers to level 2 asap
9. Use next halo to research the storm tower & start replacing arrow towers near the beginning (they should be beside the ice towers). Aim to have about 4 of them full upgraded asap
10. Continue to make sure your gold is increasing each level

By the time you get 3-4 fully upgraded storm towers, you will notice things are ridiculously easy and you can basically cruise to level 43 (the end of the game).

  1. Dude this thing rocked!!!! I could barley get past29. After this all the enemies died solo easy!!

  2. Does anyone have a chart for the hard level? I can’t get past 29

  3. idk if everyones game is like this, but when I play the monsters sort of stutter when they come out. one or two will come, then a 5 second pause then around 8-10 will come at the same time. the big crowd gets past on the first 5 levels and I lose if I don’t spend all my gold fast.. any tips?

  4. What does “Network high scores” mean? Are these the highest scores in my city-area or the highest scores in the world? I made a Ten Towers network high score but find it hard to believe that it may be an international achievement.

  5. Not sure I understand the connection between gold and points. I play the Ten Towers variation on my iPhone and beat level 43 on one map with over 90,000 gold, but it didn’t seem to affect my score at the end. My final score was around 30,000 points if I remember correctly. What am I missing?

hacking the game files will result in massive scores.

  7. Anyone saying storm towers don’t work hasn’t used them properly. 3 or 4 of them fully upgraded at the beginning of the course with a fully upgraded ice tower or two will wipe out almost everything before it gets past even on the highest levels. But to get to those upgrades it is very important to spend wisely in the beginning.

Start with only arrows placing them where they won’t get in the way of towers to be placed later.Never sell anything. Leave inside corners open for ice and water towers. Leave areas right next to the track open for bomb towers. Magic towers will later be placed in the spots furtherest from the track so leave those open where possible. Don’t upgrade any arrow towers until later when you have plenty of money.

Put at least 2 water towers on inside corners early on and quickly upgrade them to level 2. This gives the arrows more time to do their job. Once you run out of room for arrows start putting bomb towers next to the track in the spots left open. When you run out of room for those either upgrade some arrows or start in with magic towers in the outer areas or fill in the inside corners with water or ice towers. Have some of both to cover for enemy resistances.

Only use halos on investment until around lvl 20. Get storm next followed by ice and then by magic towers. Build 3 or 4 storm towers at the beginning of the course and put a water and ice tower with them to slow everything down so they can be most effective. Then just upgrade things as necessary and watch your cash build to ridiculous levels.

I finished the hard level with 1.6 million gold and a score of 388,936 using that strategy.

  8. could you post a final screenshot of what your map looks like (positioning of towers)? It’ll help me tremendously along with your 10 step solution :P

  9. Thanks! This helped me pass the level.. finally!

  10. did u get until lvl 60???how to get till lvl 60??i died on lvl 55 dude…any tips guys???

  11. I personally utilize magic towers to make money. When they are fully upgraded they sell for exactly as much gold as it cost to build them and upgrade them fully. So have one intermingled with your other towers and sell it at the end of the level. You get extra interest for the 2000 gold. Then buy and upgrade again at the beginning of the next level. Another great combo, the damage boosters+storm towers. One hit anything.
