Inappropriate? What do you think?

Last night we had a guy from Bell out to fix some wiring issues in our house so we could get our internet working. At first i was really super impressed with the guy (his name was Paul), extremely well mannered & considerate. He seemed to know what he was doing too. After about an hour he says he thinks he's fixed the problem, so we go upstairs to check the modem. He kind of seemed to be checking my house out, and then he says "Are you a businessman Dave?", i replied "sort of" or something along those lines, and then he proceeds to explain "Dave, usually Bell charges $100 for these wiring jobs. But i don't want to write you up an invoice, so in exchange for not invoicing you i was wondering if I could get a tip". Lolwut? So that's why you were being such a ass kisser before. I didn't end up tipping him as we didn't have any cash, but what would you do in that situation?!

I think it was totally appropriate!
Bell has cut their hours drastically, and the workers need more $$$
I know a bell tech, and his hours have been cut 40%!!!
He's got a kid and all, and I know any little $$ helps!

If I was in his shoes, I would do the same.

Especially when BCE is looking for a take-over bid, most of these guys don't even know if they'll have a job in a year!

Props to him for asking, he's got some balls!

Hi David! This comment doesn't relate to this story, but I wanted to contact you and couldn't find an email address. Long story short, I would like to know if I can have your permission to display the photograph you have of Obama and his family along side the Park Ranger in one of your photographs? I work at a National Park Service site (central high in little rock, arkansas!) and I'm making a display of Obama's tie with the story we interpret - the integration of central high school in 1957 - www.nps.gov/chsc. It's just such a great photo because he's standing with a Park Ranger and Malia has a junior ranger badge on! Anyway, if you would be so kind I would appreciate it if you could let me know if that's possible. Also, I'm a Canadian transplant myself...from Ottawa! But, I live and work in the states!
